Preparing for College
We strongly believe in the benefits of Mt. Mansfield Winter Academy’s rigorous academic and athletic program. Many colleges and universities with high level ski teams are also very highly regarded academically, and the standards of our academic program give our students an advantage when applying to these selective schools. Click here for an (old, but still relevant) article from the New York Times about the advantages of sports academies when applying to college. The article features MMWA!
Any ski academy experience is beneficial preparation for college and beyond, but our program offers benefits beyond what other academies can provide. Our winter term format means that our students are able to take whatever academic courses their home school offers. We teach AP courses and advanced electives that full time academies cannot possibly offer. College admissions officers look favorably on the challenging courses taken on by MMWA students. Our students are also better prepared for college because our one-on-one academic setup allows them to make truly meaningful connections with faculty and achieve greater learning than is possible in a traditional high school setting. Finally, our small student body is an advantage when applying to college because our students are less frequently competing with each other to get into the same schools. For all these reasons, MMWA students have experienced an excellent college acceptance history.
